Shelter Begins Case Management Services

Good Samaritan Center, the day and overnight shelter of Good Samaritan Mission, has instituted a case management program for overnight shelter guests.
The program assists the guests by helping them find permanent housing or other housing options like Discipleship House, by helping build connections for them with social service programs and agencies, and by assisting them with personal issues that prevent them from being able to get and maintain housing.
Overnight guests of the shelter have the opportunity to receive a guaranteed place to sleep for a month at a time provided they are connected with the program or services of another agency, and are actively working to get out of homelessness. GSM started providing case management services in February. To date, the program has assisted two people in obtaining housing, with many others receiving assistance toward that end.
“We do it as an added touch of service and compassion to help them navigate an already complicated system,” says Brent Sears, Shelter Case Manager. Brent works with an average of 12 individuals a month, most of who suffer from chronic homelessness.
Good Samaritan Center offers sleeping quarters for 14 men 7 days a week. The Center also offers day shelter to anyone in need of it each weekday.
